What We Do

Pao Centre for Teaching and Learning

A Transformative Learning Journey for Bilingual Educators

The Pao Centre for Teaching and Learning is a non-profit institution established by the YK Pao Education Foundation in Hong Kong in 2021. It is an open platform dedicated to the professional development of early career teachers and school leaders with a specialization in Chinese-English bilingual education within the Chinese context. The programmes offered by the Pao Centre are practical, grounded in cognitive science and move consistently between theory and application in the Chinese bilingual education context.

The Pao Centre for Teaching and Learning aspires to be the leading professional development centre for Chinese bilingual educators in Asia.

Since the establishment of the YK Pao School in 2007, the YK Pao Education Foundation has become increasingly aware of the need to support the development of teachers and leaders within Chinese bilingual schools and Chinese schools offering international curricula, programmes or approaches. The Foundation also sees a great need for the development of a new cohort of Chinese teachers to take on leadership roles to support the robust development of their schools. The Pao Centre seeks to provide professional learning opportunities designed and led by teachers integrating practicality and theory and to create a trusted network of like-minded educators from across China.

The Pao Centre has developed a proprietary set of professional standards: the Chinese Bilingual Education Six Arts of Teaching and Leadership to guide all its talent identification and development activities. The development of these standards was inspired on the “Six Arts”, the classic Chinese approach to talent development, with reinterpretations to make them relevant to today’s educational context and references drawn from education theories and best practices from China and around the world.

The Pao Centre for Teaching and Learning is missioned to become a supportive learning community and ecosystem and extend the vision of Sir YK Pao in inspiring and nurturing the next generation of educators who will become the backbone of Chinese bilingual education in China and beyond.
